After a bicycle collision in the East Village, Vera Resnick finds herself drawn, strangely and uncharacteristically, to the college-aged biker who struck her. Was the collision just coincidence, or did larger forces bring them together?
Vera, her husband, and their hippy-chic Texan neighbor, seek truth in the face of deception in this surprising and soulful serio-comedy that explores fate, family and identity.
About STRUCK
At its heart, Struck is about Jewish continuity. It explores how descendants carry fragments of stories, memories, and unanswered questions. It examines the ways family history survives across generations, sometimes through artifacts, sometimes through stories, and sometimes through accidents that seem impossible to explain. STRUCK balances comedy and suspense with deeply personal questions about faith, fate, ancestry, and belonging.
STRUCK explores what it means to inherit a legacy of resilience, loss, and responsibility. It asks whether identity is something we choose, something we inherit, or something that finds us. It is ultimately a story about survival - not only of people, but of memory itself.
STRUCK made its world premiere at New Jersey Repertory Theatre, directed by Don Stephenson and subsequently ran at Theatre Raleigh, under the direction of Gina Rattan.
Sandy Rustin is an actor and writer named one of the most produced playwrights in the county by American Theatre Magazine ('25-'26). Sandy’s adaptation of the film, Clue, has enjoyed over 5,000 productions worldwide and is currently touring the U.S. Sandy made her Broadway debut with her feminist farce, The Cottage (named one of the best plays of the year by Entertainment Weekly). In 2026, Sandy founded the nonprofit organization, Jokes on Her, became the inaugural recipient of The McCarter Theatre’s “New American Comedy” commission and was selected by the feminist theatre incubator, The Bechdel Project, for their “Room of One’s Own” Residency.
Sandy’s concert adaptation of Dear World for NY City Center Encores! was a NY Times Critic’s Pick and her adaptation of Mystic Pizza is currently on a U.S. National Tour. Her play with music, Almost Like a Dance, written with Grammy winner Edie Brickell, will premiere in early ’28 as will her new play Upgrade via a rolling world premiere through The National New Plays Network. Her new musical Loch Ness, will premiere at The Two River Theatre in ’27.
Her play, The Suffragette’s Murder, a winner of the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award and Henry Award nominee for “Best New Play,” is available for licensing via Concord. Her musical Always Something There premiered in Chicago and is now available for licensing via MTI.

A Northwestern University graduate, Sandy is a member of ASCAP, SAG, AEA, and The Dramatists Guild, is a member of Florida Studio Theatre's Playwright Collective, and is represented by UTA and Kaplan/Perrone. With her family, Sandy created the Jerry Kraut Memorial Fund. She serves on the Advisory Board of the new musical incubator, The Bridge.
