The Kaufer Group is a consultancy dedicated to transforming how new plays and musicals move from early development into long-term life, founded by Zach Kaufer, a strategist and rights-management specialist with over a decade of experience in theatrical licensing.

After more than a decade of experience in across four of the five major theatrical licensing houses, as well as foundation in commercial producing under Barry and Fran Weissler, Zach identified a significant structural gap: the misalignment between commercial producers aiming to shape a show’s trajectory and licensing houses focused on recoupment and distribution. This disconnect often dictates whether a show thrives post-production or fades from the marketplace.

To solve this problem, TKG collaborates with writers, independent producers, and performing arts organizations across the world to create intentional development pathways, co-production networks, and post-commercial rollout plans that foster both creative and financial success. TKG  emphasizes creator ownership, strategic alignment among stakeholders, and a data-informed understanding of what artists and producers need at this critical juncture in the life of a creative work.

The Kaufer Group, a leader in the field, is defining a new, sustainable model for independent theatrical development—one where creators lead the process, and each production opportunity contributes to a show’s long-term potential.

Unlike traditional post-production licensing that reacts to demand, TKG creates an integrated strategy with bespoke pipelines and roll-out plans from the very beginning.
